The KENNAMETAL 1943800 is a round ceramic turning insert in the KENDEX series, designed for high-speed material removal on hardened steels, superalloys, and titanium. Carrying the industry standard code RNG45E and manufactured to grade KY1540, this insert features a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.25 inch corner radius, and an uncoated bright finish that delivers high wear resistance without a coating layer. The flat top chipbreaker geometry and honed cutting edge support stable, predictable performance in demanding turning, facing, and boring applications. Eight cutting edges per insert maximize tool life and reduce per-edge cost.
This insert is suited for CNC turning centers and manual lathes performing finishing and semi-finishing passes on hardened workpieces rated in the H material group. Typical applications include turning and facing of hardened steel components and high-temperature superalloy or titanium parts where ceramic tooling outperforms carbide. The neutral hand orientation and full-radius round shape make it adaptable to a wide range of clamp-style toolholders. It is used in both production shop and job-shop environments where tool life consistency under high surface speed is a priority.
Designed for use in KENDEX series clamp-style toolholders that accept round RNG-style inserts with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle. Verify toolholder pocket specifications against ANSI size code 45 and ISO size code 120700 before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the correct clamp screw torque per the toolholder manufacturer's specification, and verify insert seating fully against the pocket before resuming cuts. Ceramic inserts are brittle — avoid interrupted cuts, sudden feed changes, or impact loading that can cause edge fracture.
