The KENNAMETAL 1937631 is a solid carbide boring insert in TPCG321 style, designed for precision internal boring operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. It carries the KC5010 manufacturer grade, a micrograin carbide substrate with a PVD-applied Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating that supports extended tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous cutting applications. The insert features a 60-degree triangle shape with an 11-degree relief angle, a 1/64 inch (0.0150 inch decimal) corner radius, and a 3/8 inch inscribed circle diameter. Thickness measures 0.1270 inches. This insert is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians working in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for right-hand boring operations in residential shop, commercial production, and industrial machining applications. The TPCG321 form factor fits standard boring bar toolholders designed for triangular inserts with a top clamp or pin-lock retention system. The TiN coating provides a hard, wear-resistant surface layer that reduces built-up edge and extends cutting intervals on steel, cast iron, and similar materials. Machinists running finish-bore or semi-finish operations will find the 1/64 inch corner radius appropriate for moderate surface finish requirements without excessive radial cutting forces.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for standard TPCG321 boring bar toolholders accepting 60-degree triangular solid carbide inserts with top clamp or pin retention.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not estimate. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before installing a new insert to prevent premature edge failure or chatter.
