The KENNAMETAL 1937630 is a solid carbide boring insert designed for precision metal cutting operations on CNC lathes and boring bars. It carries the TPCG321 insert style designation and is manufactured in grade KC5010, a micrograin carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for improved wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. The insert features a 60-degree included angle in a triangular shape, a corner radius of 0.015 inches (1/64 inch), an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches (3/8 inch), and a thickness of 0.127 inches (1/8 inch). The 11-degree relief angle and left-hand orientation make it suited for specific bore geometry requirements in ferrous and non-ferrous machining.
This insert is used in internal boring applications on CNC turning centers, manual lathes, and dedicated boring machines in industrial manufacturing environments. The left-hand configuration makes it appropriate for right-to-left tool travel or specific spindle orientations. It is typically installed by machinists and CNC operators in job shops, production machining facilities, and aerospace or automotive component manufacturing cells where tight bore tolerances are required. The TiAlN coating extends tool life in dry or minimal-lubrication cutting conditions.
Designed for use in TPCG-style boring bar toolholders and insert seats that accept a 321-size triangular insert with a 0.130-inch hole diameter and left-hand orientation. Verify toolholder geometry and insert seating requirements before installation.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC service personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque driver or insert clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for debris or wear before seating the new insert to ensure proper support and repeatability.
