The KENNAMETAL 1937621 is a solid carbide boring insert designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured to the TD6P2 insert style in a 60-degree triangular shape, this insert features a PVD-applied Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating over a micrograin carbide substrate in the KC5010 grade. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 1/8-inch thickness make it suitable for small-bore and medium-bore finishing passes. The 11-degree relief angle reduces cutting edge contact and minimizes friction against the workpiece wall. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in metalworking shops are the primary installers and users of this insert.
This insert is intended for boring applications requiring a tight corner radius of 1/32 inch, making it well suited for finishing cuts where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. The KC5010 grade with TiN PVD coating performs in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials where wear resistance and edge retention are priorities. It fits standard TD6P-compatible boring bar holders that accept a 2-size triangular insert with a 0.1300-inch hole diameter. Designed as a direct-fit replacement for TD6P-style boring bar toolholders accepting a size-2 triangular insert with a 0.1300-inch mounting hole diameter. Verify holder specification against the TD6P2 insert style before installation.
Insert replacement and seating should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the boring bar manufacturer to secure the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
