The KENNAMETAL 1937601 is a solid carbide boring insert designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. Manufactured to TPCH221 geometry, it features a 60-degree triangular shape with an 11-degree relief angle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, making it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where tight tolerances and consistent surface finish are required. The KC5010 grade CVD coating stack — TiC, TiCN, and TiN applied in sequence — delivers a combination of wear resistance, heat resistance, and lubricity that extends tool life in steel and cast iron applications. Insert thickness is 0.0960 inches with a 0.2500-inch inscribed circle diameter.
This insert is used in boring bars and cartridge-style boring heads commonly found in production and job-shop environments. It is appropriate for internal diameter finishing, light roughing, and contour boring on ferrous materials including carbon steels, alloy steels, and gray cast iron. The TPCH-style positive-rake geometry reduces cutting forces and is a common choice when machining thin-walled bores or when minimizing workpiece deflection is a priority. Installation is performed by machinists and CNC operators in manufacturing and machine-shop settings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for boring bars and toolholders accepting TPCH221-geometry triangular carbide inserts with a 0.1300-inch hole diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state before any insert change. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw for the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping torque — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Verify cutting edge orientation and insert seating before resuming operation.
