The KENNAMETAL 1937586 is a solid carbide boring insert designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. It carries the TPCG221 insert style designation and is manufactured in grade KC5010, a micrograin carbide substrate with a PVD-applied Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating. The 60-degree triangular geometry provides a sharp, positive cutting edge suited for finishing passes and light interrupted cuts in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The insert measures 0.25 inches inscribed circle diameter and 0.096 inches thick, with a 1/64-inch corner radius for tight tolerance finishing work. Installation is left-hand orientation.
This insert is used in boring bar toolholders configured for TPCG-style inserts in left-hand cutting applications. It is suited for finishing and semi-finishing internal bores in residential and industrial machining environments. The KC5010 grade performs well in moderate-speed finishing of steel, cast iron, and stainless steel where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are the primary objectives. Machinists and tool crib technicians in production shops, job shops, and maintenance departments are the typical end users.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for TPCG221-style boring insert toolholders requiring left-hand, 60-degree triangular inserts with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert hand orientation before installation.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the insert clamp to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the pocket seat for chips or damage before indexing or replacing an insert, as debris in the pocket will affect runout and surface finish.
