The KENNAMETAL 1937538 is a solid carbide boring insert designed for precision internal turning and boring operations in metalworking applications. The insert carries the TDHB1280751 geometry designation and is manufactured from micrograin solid carbide with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating applied via PVD process. The triangular 60-degree included angle provides three usable cutting edges, while the 15-degree relief angle reduces cutting forces and tool pressure. A corner radius of 0.015 inches helps control surface finish and edge chipping on finished bores. This insert is used by machinists and toolroom professionals running CNC lathes, boring bars, or dedicated boring heads on ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
This insert is suited for finish and semi-finish boring passes in production and job-shop environments. The KC5010 grade, a PVD-coated micrograin carbide, is typically applied in light to moderate cutting conditions where edge sharpness and dimensional accuracy are critical. The compact geometry, with a 5/32-inch inscribed circle and 3/64-inch thickness, fits small-bore toolholders and cartridges where space is limited. Applications include bore finishing on turned components, hydraulic cylinders, valve bodies, and similar precision parts requiring tight diameter tolerances.
Designed for use in TDHB-style boring bar cartridges and toolholders that accept the 1280751 insert size code with a 5/32-inch inscribed circle and 0.095-inch hole diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool turret or boring head is locked before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure when clamping the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper seating and repeatable tool reach.
