The KENNAMETAL 1871167 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation CPMT2151UF and ISO designation CPMT060204, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process under the KC5010 grade. Designed for finishing operations, this insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, and a neutral hand orientation. The insert measures 6.45 mm (0.2539 inches) in length with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. It is held in place by a screw-on method and delivers high wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in turning, facing, and boring operations are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for finishing cuts in turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers, both in job shop and production environments. Primary workpiece material codes are P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (aluminum and non-ferrous), and S (superalloys and titanium). The maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), making it most effective for light finishing passes where tight tolerances and surface finish quality are critical. Operators targeting difficult-to-machine materials such as superalloys and titanium will benefit from the KC5010 grade characteristics, which balance high wear resistance with moderate toughness. Sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Designed as a screw-on replacement insert conforming to ANSI size code 2151 and ISO size code 060204, compatible with toolholders designed for CPMT-style inserts with corresponding screw-on retention.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is placed in a safe, locked-out state before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder seat; do not overtighten or cross-thread the screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or contamination before seating the new insert to ensure accurate tool geometry.
