The KENNAMETAL 1871164 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI designation CCMT32505UF and ISO designation CCMT09T302, with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating and KC5010 grade. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, and a 7-degree relief angle. With a corner radius of 0.0079 inches and a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches, this insert is engineered for high-precision finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the primary goals. It mounts via screw-on holding method and provides 2 cutting edges per insert.
This insert is intended for finishing and light-duty turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (material codes P, M, K, N, S). The UF chip breaker geometry is optimized for light chip loads typical of finishing cuts. The KC5010 grade delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness, making it well-suited for demanding workpiece materials where tool life consistency is critical. It is installed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC setup personnel in both job shop and production environments.
Designed for use in CCMT32505-compatible screw-on turning toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert seating dimensions before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine in a powered-off, locked-out state and the spindle fully stopped. Use a calibrated torque wrench appropriate for the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamp screw torque. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp screw for wear or debris before seating the insert. Index or replace the insert at the first sign of chipping, built-up edge, or surface finish degradation to avoid workpiece damage.
