The KENNAMETAL 1871039 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the industry standard designation WPMT3251LF in the KC5010 grade. It features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) TiAlN coating engineered for high wear-resistance across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloy workpiece materials. The insert measures 0.513 inches in length with a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0156-inch corner radius, and a 5/32-inch thickness. With a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, an 11-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge, it is built for finishing and light machining applications. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers and users.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations. Its 80-degree trigon (W-shape) geometry and LF chip breaker make it well suited to finishing passes and light material removal on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and superalloys including titanium. The screw-on holding method secures the insert in compatible WPMT-style toolholders. With three usable cutting edges per insert and a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.049 inches), it is a practical choice for precision turning cells running tight tolerances on difficult materials.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard interchangeable insert for WPMT-style screw-on toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code WPMT3251 and ISO insert code WPMT06T304.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before changing inserts, bring the spindle to a full stop, engage the machine lock, and follow the machine tool manufacturer lockout procedure. Use the correct Torx or hex key to seat the screw-on fastener to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or wear before seating a new insert, as debris under the insert will affect runout and edge life.
