The KENNAMETAL 1871033 is a solid carbide turning insert designated DPMT2151LF in the KC5010 grade, designed for precision finishing and light machining operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and an 11-degree relief angle, promoting free cutting action and reduced cutting forces. A PVD-applied TiAlN coating delivers high wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. The screw-on holding method provides secure clamping and repeatable indexing. The cutting edge is honed for consistency, and the LF chip breaker geometry targets finishing passes with controlled chip formation. Each insert provides 2 cutting edges.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications in both residential shop and industrial production environments. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, with secondary suitability for aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The KC5010 grade is characterized by high to moderate wear resistance combined with adequate toughness, making it appropriate for continuous and lightly interrupted cuts. Machinists and CNC programmers working in production turning will find the DPMT2151LF geometry effective for achieving tight tolerances on finish passes with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches).
Designed as a screw-on style replacement insert conforming to ANSI insert code DPMT2151 and ISO insert code DPMT070204, fitting toolholders and boring bars engineered to the DPMT screw-on standard. Conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards for interchangeability with compatible toolholder systems.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque — do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert, and verify seating is flush before returning the machine to service.
