The KENNAMETAL 1871014 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CPMT2152LF configuration, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process under the manufacturer grade KC5010. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a relief angle of 11 degrees, making it well suited for finishing and light machining operations. The cutting edge is honed for consistent performance, and the LF chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip flow at lighter depths of cut. With 2 cutting edges and a screw-on holding method, the insert delivers repeatable indexing in compatible toolholders.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations across a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, cast iron, and non-ferrous materials. The KC5010 grade is characterized by high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance and toughness across P, M, K, N, and S material classifications. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), making this insert best suited for precision finishing passes rather than heavy stock removal. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
Designed as an OEM-style screw-on turning insert conforming to ANSI size code 2152 and ISO size code 060208, compatible with CPMT-style toolholders accepting a 1/4-inch inscribed circle insert with screw-on clamping.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. The machine spindle must be stopped and the toolholder must be clear of the workpiece before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper support and runout.
