The KENNAMETAL 1868190 is a solid carbide turning insert with a CPGM32502 ANSI designation and ISO code CPGM09T301. It carries a TiAlN PVD coating in grade KC5010, engineered for high wear-resistance with a balance of toughness across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron applications. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, an 11-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge style. With a 0.0039-inch corner radius and a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, this neutral-hand insert is suited for precision turning, facing, and boring operations. It is installed by machinists and tool-room technicians on CNC and manual lathes.
This insert is designed for medium machining chip-breaker operations and is appropriate for use on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. It is also rated for cast iron and aluminum applications. The screw-on holding method ensures secure clamping in compatible toolholders. Typical installation scenarios include production turning of shaft components, facing operations on flanges, and boring of bored-hole features on both CNC turning centers and manual engine lathes. The two available cutting edges extend tool life before the insert requires indexing or replacement.
Designed as a screw-on turning insert conforming to ANSI insert code CPGM32502 and ISO insert code CPGM09T301. Compatible with toolholders designed for CPGM-style screw-on inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 0.1732-inch hole diameter. Multi-use application covers turning, facing, and boring operations.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the screw-on clamping screw, and ensure the insert seat and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm) as specified for this insert geometry.
