The KENNAMETAL 1866762 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the ANSI designation VBGT331LF and manufacturer grade KC5410. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake and 5-degree relief angle, making it well suited to light finishing cuts. The cutting edges are honed for a clean shear action, and a PVD-applied TiB2 coating delivers high wear resistance on non-ferrous workpiece materials. Two usable cutting edges are available per insert. Corner radius is 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch) and inscribed circle diameter is 0.375 inches (3/8 inch). Insert thickness is 0.1875 inches (3/16 inch) and insert length is 16.61 mm (approximately 0.654 inches). Total package weight is 0.02 pounds.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on aluminum and non-ferrous metals where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the primary objectives. The LF chip breaker geometry targets finishing and light machining passes, keeping maximum depth of cut to 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). It is most commonly installed by CNC machinists and toolroom operators running aluminum, copper alloys, brass, and similar non-ferrous stock. The screw-on holding method requires a compatible VBGT-style toolholder.
Designed for use in VBGT-style screw-on toolholders compatible with ANSI insert code VBGT331 and ISO insert code VBGT160404. Suitable for multi-use turning applications including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring on non-ferrous workpiece materials.
Installation is performed by machinists using a torx or hex key to secure the insert screw in a compatible VBGT screw-on toolholder. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination will affect insert stability and surface finish. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specification for this geometry.
