The KENNAMETAL 1866755 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation VBGT3305LF and ISO designation VBGT160402, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process under the KC5010 grade. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a screw-on holding method. The insert measures 16.61 mm (0.654 inches) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a corner radius of 0.0079 inches (1/128 inch). Designed for finishing and light machining operations, it is installed by machinists and tooling technicians on CNC turning centers, lathes, and boring equipment requiring high wear resistance.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications. Its KC5010 grade targets steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials, delivering high to moderate wear resistance and toughness across those material families. The positive rake angle and positive side clearance geometry support clean cutting action in finishing passes and light stock removal scenarios. The LF chip breaker is optimized for fine-finish chip control at reduced depths of cut, making it appropriate for tight-tolerance work on both ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
Designed as an OEM-style screw-on replacement insert conforming to ANSI size code 3305 and ISO size code 160402, compatible with tool holders engineered for VBGT-style screw-on inserts. Suitable for multi-use applications including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key for the insert screw and avoid over-tightening, which can crack the carbide. Inspect the pocket seat for debris or wear before seating the insert, as a contaminated pocket will affect dimensional accuracy and insert life.
