The KENNAMETAL 1866754 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBGT330LF geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process and offered in the KC5010 manufacturer grade. This insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle and positive side clearance, making it well-suited for finishing and light machining operations. The screw-on holding method provides secure seating in compatible toolholders. With a 0.0039-inch corner radius and a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches, it is engineered for precision material removal at light engagement. Licensed HVAC techs install HVAC equipment; this insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators working in metal-cutting environments.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. Its KC5010 grade delivers high to moderate wear resistance combined with toughness, making it applicable across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials. The neutral hand orientation suits a wide range of toolholder setups. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining cuts where surface finish and edge integrity are priorities. It ships individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 5 units, which is standard for indexed carbide inserts in trade and production environments.
Designed as a screw-on replacement insert conforming to ANSI insert code VBGT3302 and ISO insert code VBGT160401, compatible with toolholders accepting VBGT-style inserts with a screw-on clamping system.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Seat the insert firmly against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket and screw thread for damage or carbide debris before each insert change to maintain accurate seating and prevent premature edge failure.
