The KENNAMETAL 1866676 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBGT220LF geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process and graded KC5025. It carries a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake and positive side clearance, making it suited for finishing and light machining operations. The insert measures 0.8718 inches in length with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, a 0.125-inch thickness, and a 0.0039-inch corner radius. Two cutting edges and a screw-on holding method are standard. Licensed machinists and CNC operators typically specify this insert for high-precision external and internal turning applications where surface finish and edge integrity are priorities.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Its KC5025 grade with moderate wear-resistance and toughness targets steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous materials (N), and superalloys and titanium (S). The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm), making it appropriate for close-tolerance work in both job shop and production environments.
Designed as a screw-on replacement insert conforming to ANSI insert code VBGT2202 and ISO insert code VBGT110301, compatible with toolholders accepting the VBGT screw-on insert style in the 2202 size code.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stopped and locked-out state before insert changes. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the insert screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification; do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force. Confirm the insert pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the new insert. Verify depth-of-cut and feed parameters against the KC5025 grade recommendations before resuming cuts.
