The KENNAMETAL 1866650 is a solid carbide turning insert with a DCGT2150LF geometry and KC5010 grade, designed for precision finishing and light machining operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle, promoting free-cutting action and reduced cutting forces. A TiAlN PVD coating delivers high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The corner radius measures 0.0039 inches and the inscribed circle is 0.25 inches, making this a compact insert suited for detail work, internal boring, and back-turning applications where tight tolerances are required.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations in a screw-on toolholder system. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining passes. Primary target materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium. The KC5010 grade characteristic emphasizes high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance and toughness across P, M, K, N, and S workpiece material categories. It is sold individually per package, with a minimum order quantity of 5 units, making it suitable for shop floor stocking in production environments.
Designed for use in screw-on DCGT-style turning toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code DCGT21502 and ISO insert code DCGT070201. Suitable for toolholders accepting a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, 3/32-inch thick diamond insert with a screw-on mounting method.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC toolroom technician using the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the insert screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Always index or replace the insert with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut rating for this insert geometry in finishing applications.
