The KENNAMETAL 1866648 is a solid carbide turning insert with a DCGT325X0LF industry standard designation and KC5025 grade, designed for precision metal cutting operations. The insert features a physical vapor deposition (PVD) TiAlN coating that delivers moderate wear resistance and toughness across a range of workpiece materials. The 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle and positive side clearance makes it well suited for finishing and light machining passes. With a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, an insert length of 11.63 mm (0.9156 inches), and a corner radius of 0.0015 decimal inches, this screw-on insert is used by machinists and tool-and-die technicians in production turning applications.
This insert is rated for use on stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as primary workpiece materials, with the KC5025 grade also covering steel, cast iron, and aluminum and non-ferrous metals at moderate wear-resistance and toughness levels. Typical applications include turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring on CNC lathes and turning centers. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining cuts, where controlled chip formation and surface finish quality are priorities. The maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), which is consistent with light finishing parameters.
Designed for use in screw-on style DCGT insert toolholders that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 5/32-inch thick, 55-degree diamond insert with a 0.1732-inch (4.40 mm) hole diameter. Compatible with multi-use turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. Verify toolholder clearance and pocket specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by machining technicians on CNC or manual turning equipment. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct insert screw and torque driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert body. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or damage before seating the new insert to ensure proper support and accurate positioning.
