The KENNAMETAL 1866570 is a solid carbide turning insert with a TiAlN PVD coating, designed for precision turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI insert code CCGT32502 and ISO insert code CCGT09T301, featuring an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape and a positive rake angle of 5 degrees with a 7-degree relief angle. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining passes. The KC5025 grade delivers moderate wear resistance and toughness across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous alloys. Each insert offers two cutting edges and uses a screw-on holding method.
This insert is suited for finish turning and light interrupted or continuous cuts on stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, steel, cast iron, and aluminum. Its positive side clearance and honed cutting edge reduce cutting forces, making it effective on thin-walled or heat-sensitive workpieces. The CCGT geometry is commonly used in applications where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities, such as aerospace components, medical parts, and precision shafts. It installs into compatible CCGT-style toolholders rated for the 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert size.
Designed as a screw-on replacement insert for CCGT-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with ANSI size code 32502 and ISO size code 09T301. Suitable for multi-use turning, facing, and boring applications. Compatible primary workpiece materials include stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, steel, cast iron, and aluminum and non-ferrous alloys as indicated by material codes P, M, K, N, and S.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified feel — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the toolholder pocket seating surface and shim for wear or debris before inserting a new tip.
