The KENNAMETAL 1866017 is a round carbide turning insert in the RCMT215 configuration, designed for high-efficiency metal removal in turning, facing, and boring operations. Manufactured from solid carbide and coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, this insert carries the KC5010 grade designation, which delivers high wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. It features a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, a 0.125-inch corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. The screw-on holding method secures the insert firmly in compatible toolholders during high-feed and interrupted-cut conditions. Licensed machinists and CNC turning center operators are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium in both roughing and medium machining applications. The full-radius round shape (Insert Shape Code R) provides multiple repositionable cutting edges and is commonly used in copy turning, profiling, and OD turning setups on CNC lathes and turning centers. It is rated for medium chip-breaker operation, making it appropriate for moderate to high material removal rates where edge stability and coating durability are priorities.
Designed for use in screw-on style toolholders accepting RCMT215 (ISO RCMT060200) round inserts. Compatible with CNC turning, facing, and boring applications targeting steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous materials (N), and superalloys and titanium (S) workpiece material groups per ISO classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling setup technicians. Power down the machine and engage all lockout-tagout procedures before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamp screw to the toolholder specification — do not over-tighten, as this can crack the carbide insert body. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the replacement insert.
