The KENNAMETAL 1865535 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPG322 geometry, part of the KENDEX series. Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, this insert carries the KC5010 grade designation and delivers high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, and superalloys. The triangular insert body provides 3 cutting edges with a positive rake angle and a flat-top chip breaker. Key dimensions include a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 1/8 inch thickness, and a 1/32 inch corner radius. It is held in place using a clamp-style toolholder and is suited for light to moderate stock-removal applications where surface finish and tool life are priorities.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. The KC5010 grade with TiAlN coating is optimized for primary use on steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), cast iron (ISO K), aluminum and non-ferrous materials (ISO N), and superalloys and titanium (ISO S). The flat-top chip breaker geometry and honed cutting edge style support consistent chip control at moderate depths of cut up to 0.0492 inch (1.25 mm). This insert is a practical choice for production turning environments where multiple workpiece material types run on the same machine.
Designed for use with clamp-style KENDEX series toolholders accepting TPG322 insert geometry. Conforms to ANSI insert code TPG322 and ISO insert code TPG160308, making it compatible with any toolholder specified for those standards.
Installation of turning inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per applicable safety procedures. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamp to avoid micro-movement during the cut. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before each insert change. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for this insert geometry.
