The KENNAMETAL 1865534 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPG321 geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, and assigned to the KENDEX series under grade KC5010. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a flat-top chip breaker configuration. Relief angle is 11 degrees with a positive side clearance and positive rake. Insert length is 0.6495 inches and insert thickness is 0.125 inches. Three cutting edges are available per insert. This grade is engineered for high to moderate wear resistance and toughness across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloy workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install these inserts in production and job-shop environments.
The 1865534 insert is suited for external turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, with secondary application to non-ferrous and additional steel grades. The flat-top chip breaker and honed cutting edge make it appropriate for light to moderate depth-of-cut passes, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). It follows ANSI and ISO dimensional standards, carries ANSI size code 321 and ISO code 160304, and fits toolholders designed for the TPG insert style with a clamp-type holding method.
Designed for use in toolholders that accept the TPG insert style with a clamp-type holding method, conforming to ANSI size code 321 and ISO size code 160304. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and non-ferrous materials as noted in the grade characteristics.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate clamp screw torque driver per the toolholder manufacturer's documentation — do not over-torque the clamp. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before securing the insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
