The KENNAMETAL 1865218 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPGF322 geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process under the KC5010 manufacturer grade. It belongs to the KENDEX series and features a 60-degree triangular shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and an 11-degree relief angle. The insert measures 16.50 mm (0.6496 inches) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius. With three cutting edges and a sharp cutting edge style, this insert is engineered for medium machining chip breaker operation on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators on screw-held toolholders.
The 1865218 is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations across a range of materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium. The KC5010 grade delivers high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance and toughness across P, M, K, N, and S material groups. Its neutral hand orientation and positive side clearance make it suitable for a broad set of lathe and machining center applications in both production and job-shop environments. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), making it well suited for light to medium finishing passes.
Designed as a replacement or consumable insert for TPGF-style screw-clamping toolholders accepting a 322 ANSI size code (ISO size code 160308). Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert seating before use.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the toolholder specification — do not overtighten, as solid carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under uneven clamping. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or damage before seating a new insert.
