The KENNAMETAL 1850012 is a solid carbide profiling and turning insert in the Top Notch series, designed for high-precision material removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the NPR52 insert style designation and is manufactured from ultra fine grain carbide with the KC5025 grade. The insert features an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, which supports extended tool life at elevated cutting temperatures. At 0.125 inches thick with a 0.0312-inch corner radius, it is engineered for profiling passes where dimensional accuracy and edge integrity are critical. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of standard turning toolholders.
This insert is suited for profiling and turning applications across a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. The negative rake geometry and 55-degree included angle make it well matched to interrupted cuts and finishing passes on harder materials. It installs in right-hand orientation via screw clamping and is designed for use in Top Notch series toolholders. The maximum depth of cut is 0.1257 inches, making it appropriate for moderate to light profiling passes in production turning environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for Top Notch series toolholders accepting NPR52 style inserts. ISO code reference is KCGX110308R15. Compatible toolholder selection should confirm right-hand orientation and screw-clamp insert pocket configuration.
This insert is installed and changed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before replacing inserts, ensure the machine is powered down and the spindle is fully stopped. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key per the toolholder manufacturer specification to seat the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw threads for wear or contamination before installing a new insert to maintain proper seating and runout.
