The KENNAMETAL 1849274 is a carbide profiling and turning insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision material removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the NPGR51R designation with manufacturer grade KC5010 and an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process. The insert features a parallelogram shape with a 55-degree included angle, 8-degree relief angle, and a 10-degree positive rake for reduced cutting forces. The corner radius measures 0.40 mm (0.0156 inches), and the inscribed circle diameter is 0.25 inches. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production turning applications install and index this insert.
This insert is suited for profiling and turning operations across a wide range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It covers ISO material groups P, M, K, N, S, and H, with applicable material grades spanning P10, P20, M10, M20, K05, K10, K15, K20, N10, N20, S10, S20, and H10. The right-hand cutting orientation and clamp-style holding method make it compatible with standard Top Notch profiling toolholders used in both roughing and finishing passes on turning centers.
Designed for use in Top Notch series profiling toolholders that accept NPGR51R style inserts. Compatible with right-hand clamp-style insert seats. Standards cross-reference: NPGR51R and KCGR110304R08.
Installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torx or hex wrench specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamp; do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert seat and clamping components for debris or damage before seating the insert. Follow shop-specific tooling setup procedures and verify insert orientation matches the right-hand cutting direction before resuming operation.
