The KENNAMETAL 1849252 is a carbide profiling and turning insert in the Top Notch series, designed for use in CNC lathes and turning centers on a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert carries the NPL132F designation and is manufactured to grade KC5010 with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding cuts. The parallelogram-shaped body features a 55-degree included angle, a negative rake geometry at 10 degrees, and four cutting edges per insert, making it a cost-effective option for high-production turning operations. Insert holding is by screw clamp.
This insert is suited for profiling and turning applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, N, S, and H. It is rated for material grades P10 through P20, M10 through M20, K05 through K20, N10 through N20, S10 through S20, and H10. Typical install scenarios include finish and semi-finish turning passes on medium to small-diameter features where controlled corner geometry is required. The left-hand cutting orientation must be confirmed against the toolholder specification before ordering.
Designed for use in Top Notch series toolholders accepting the NPL132F insert style. The ISO equivalent designation is KNGX150408L20. Confirm toolholder hand and pocket geometry before installation. No additional compatible model numbers were specified in the product data.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe index position before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the pocket and tighten the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using the appropriate Torx or hex key. Inspect the insert pocket for wear, chips, or debris before each insert change to maintain accurate seating and prevent premature edge failure.
