The KENNAMETAL 1849243 is a carbide profiling and turning insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision material removal on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the KC5010 grade with an AlTiN PVD coating, which supports high-speed cutting across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert has a parallelogram shape with a 55-degree included angle, a 0.2490-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0312-inch (0.79 mm) corner radius. With 4 cutting edges and a screw-holding method, it delivers consistent performance and efficient indexing during profiling and contour turning operations. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for profiling and turning applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its ISO code is KCGX110308L15, and it conforms to NPL52 standards. The left-hand orientation makes it appropriate for specific toolholder configurations where right-to-left cutting direction is required. Typical use cases include contour profiling, facing, and general turning on components where a tight corner radius and controlled depth of cut are priorities. Maximum depth of cut is 0.1257 inches.
Conforms to NPL52 insert standards and ISO code KCGX110308L15. Designed for use in Top Notch series screw-clamp toolholders that accept left-hand NPL52-style inserts. Verify toolholder insert-pocket geometry and hand orientation before installation.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not over-tighten, as carbide inserts are brittle. Confirm the insert seats fully and flush in the pocket before resuming cuts. Inspect the cutting edge and coating condition at each index to avoid running a damaged edge into the workpiece.
