The KENNAMETAL 1832354 is a solid carbide turning insert designated TNMG331MP in the KC5010 grade, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process. It carries a triangular shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The MP chip breaker geometry is engineered for roughing and medium machining operations. With six available cutting edges and a negative rake and side clearance configuration, this insert is suited for high-productivity turning, facing, and boring work. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians will encounter it most often on production lathes running steel and stainless steel applications.
This insert is designed for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S. The KC5010 grade delivers high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance and toughness across those material groups. Typical applications include continuous and interrupted turning, OD facing, and light boring cycles. The insert seats in KENLOC-style toolholders that accept TNMG-style inserts and accommodate clamp or pin holding methods. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). The chamfered and honed cutting edge style helps manage heat and edge stability during aggressive passes.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept TNMG-style inserts with clamp or pin holding. Conforms to ANSI insert code TNMG331 and ISO insert code TNMG160404, making it interchangeable with any holder built to those standards.
Insert seating and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked out. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping hardware for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench for the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify insert orientation and seating before resuming cuts.
