The KENNAMETAL 1832297 is a CNMG434MP-geometry solid carbide turning insert coated with TiAlN via PVD process and graded KC5010 for high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, neutral hand orientation, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. With a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thickness, and 1/16-inch corner radius, this insert is sized for moderate to heavy roughing and medium machining operations. Four available cutting edges maximize tool life. Licensed machinists and CNC turning operators install this insert in KENLOC-compatible toolholders on production lathes and turning centers.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S. The MP chip breaker geometry handles roughing and medium machining cycles, offering high wear resistance with moderate toughness across these material families. It is suitable for both residential shop and production environments where consistent surface finish and tool life under interrupted or continuous cuts are priorities. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches).
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNMG434 (ANSI) or CNMG120416 (ISO) inserts with clamp or pin holding methods. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes P, M, K, N, S).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance for the clamp or pin fastener to prevent insert movement during cut.
