The KENNAMETAL 1818376 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which improves wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted cuts and high-speed grooving. The insert delivers a 0.250 inch (6.35 mm) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.500 inch (12.7 mm). With a positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a K-style chip breaker, it promotes controlled chip evacuation in a wide range of workpiece materials. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC lathe operators working in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for grooving applications in both production and precision machining environments. The right-hand orientation and 3-degree lead angle make it appropriate for standard OD grooving on ferrous and non-ferrous materials falling within material grades C2 and C6. Its maximum depth of cut range of 0.300 inch to 1.000 inch (10.00 mm to 20.00 mm) covers a broad spectrum of groove depths encountered in typical shaft, sleeve, and flange work on horizontal and slant-bed turning centers.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders accepting insert seat size 4. The manufacturer cross-reference number is NGD4250R/LK. Verify toolholder seat style and hand orientation before installation.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC lathe operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp hardware specified for the Top Notch toolholder to secure the insert without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert, and confirm depth-of-cut programming does not exceed the rated maximum for the toolholder and insert combination.
