The KENNAMETAL 1818119 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Offered in the Top Notch series, it features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process for improved wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting temperatures. The insert delivers a 3.18 mm (0.1252 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 6.35 mm (0.2500 inch). The left-hand orientation and positive rake angle of 10 degrees support controlled chip flow and reduced cutting forces. Machining professionals and CNC operators use this insert for grooving steel, stainless steel, and similar workpiece materials in production turning environments.
This insert is suited for left-hand grooving applications on manual and CNC turning equipment in both job shop and production settings. The KC5025 grade, a PVD-coated carbide with a C2 and C6 material grade designation, is targeted at interrupted cuts and general-purpose turning on difficult-to-machine materials. The Top Notch series toolholding system provides rigid clamping, making this insert appropriate for medium to high production runs where insert changeover speed matters. The K chip breaker geometry assists with chip control across a range of depths within the 5.00 mm to 10.00 mm maximum depth of cut range.
Designed for use with KENNAMETAL Top Notch series toolholders that accept the NGD3125K insert style. Confirm toolholder compatibility with the NGD insert style and 3125 insert size before ordering.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Seat the insert fully in the Top Notch toolholder pocket and verify the clamp is secure before initiating a cut. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines for the clamping screw and inspect the insert seat for chips or debris prior to installation.
