The KENNAMETAL 1807220 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision finishing and light machining of aluminum and non-ferrous metals. Identified by industry standard code CCGT3251LF and manufactured to the KC5410 grade, this insert features a PVD-applied TiB2 (titanium diboride) coating that delivers high wear resistance with a positive rake geometry for clean, low-force cutting action. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides two usable cutting edges per insert. With an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches and a corner radius of 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch), it is well suited for tight-tolerance finishing passes. Installed via screw-on holding method, it is a standard choice for CNC lathe operators and toolroom machinists working non-ferrous workpiece materials.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring operations on non-ferrous metals, including aluminum, copper alloys, and similar materials classified under ISO workpiece material group N. Its LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining applications where surface finish quality and dimensional accuracy are priorities. The positive side clearance and honed cutting edge style reduce built-up edge on soft, gummy materials. It conforms to both ANSI insert code CCGT3251 and ISO insert code CCGT09T304, making it interchangeable within standard CCGT-style toolholders used across a wide range of CNC and manual turning setups.
Designed for use in standard screw-on CCGT-style toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code CCGT3251 and ISO insert code CCGT09T304. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on non-ferrous metals (ISO material group N) in CNC and manual lathe applications.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool turret is de-energized before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw to the correct seating torque per the toolholder documentation. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and edge geometry.
