The KENNAMETAL 1799587 is a Top Notch series carbide threading insert designed for precision thread-turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the NTB3RB insert style in grade KC5010, this insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that improves wear resistance and heat management at the cutting edge. It handles both internal and external American Buttress thread forms at pitches from 8 to 16 TPI. The 45-degree included angle and right-hand configuration match standard Buttress thread geometry. This insert is specified and installed by machinists and CNC lathe operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for threading American Buttress profiles on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces in both internal and external applications. The Top Notch toolholder system uses a notched clamping design that provides rigid, repeatable seating for the insert, which matters when holding thread-form accuracy across a production run. It is appropriate for use in both roughing and finishing passes within the rated pitch range of 8 to 16 TPI. Typical applications include power transmission components, hydraulic cylinder rods, and other parts that require Buttress thread engagement. Designed for use with KENNAMETAL Top Notch series toolholders that accept NTB style, size 3 threading inserts. Compatible with both internal and external American Buttress threading applications in the 8 to 16 TPI range.
This insert is seated and clamped by a machinist or CNC tooling technician using the Top Notch clamping mechanism on the designated toolholder. Power down the machine and ensure the spindle is fully stopped before changing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping notch for chips or damage before seating the new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer clamping procedure to ensure proper insert contact and rigidity before resuming cutting operations.
