The KENNAMETAL 1799578 is a carbide threading insert in the Top Notch series, designed for cutting American Buttress threads on both internal and external workpieces. It carries the KC5025 manufacturer grade with a TiAlN finish applied via PVD coating process, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding threading operations. The insert is left-hand orientation, covers a pitch range of 8 to 16 TPI, and features a 45-degree included angle. At 0.1642 inches tip to top and a corner radius of 0.0067 inches, this is a precision ground insert suited for CNC lathes and turning centers running ferrous and non-ferrous materials. This insert is appropriate for shops performing American Buttress thread forms, which are common in high-load applications such as hydraulic cylinder rods, power screws, and heavy mechanical assemblies. This insert is installed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians following standard carbide insert seating procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully and evenly in the pocket without over-torquing the clamping screw, as carbide is brittle and can fracture under uneven clamping load. Verify insert orientation and thread hand before resuming cutting operations.
