The KENNAMETAL 1799483 is a carbide threading insert designed for cutting NPT pipe threads in both internal and external applications. Manufactured to the NDC38VR75 style in the Top Notch series, this insert carries the KC5010 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN finish for enhanced wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The included angle is 60 degrees, and the insert is configured for right-hand cutting at 8 threads per inch. With a tip-to-top height of 0.1000 inches and a corner radius of 0.0051 inches, it holds precise geometry critical to producing leak-free threaded connections. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators in production and maintenance shops are the primary users.
This insert is suited for threading operations on pipe and fittings requiring NPT thread forms in both internal and external configurations. The KC5010 carbide grade with TiAlN coating performs well in ferrous and non-ferrous materials classified under material grades C3 and C4. Typical applications include threading operations on hydraulic fittings, industrial pipe connections, and fluid-handling components where NPT thread geometry and surface finish are critical to sealing performance. The Top Notch insert series is recognized for repeatable seating and consistent depth of cut across production runs.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement threading insert for Top Notch series toolholders accepting NDC style, size 38 inserts. Confirm toolholder specification before ordering.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state before insert indexing or replacement. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert. Verify thread form and pitch with a thread gauge after the first pass before committing to a full production run.
