The KENNAMETAL 1799414 is a carbide threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 24 threads per inch (TPI). Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, it is built for wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding threading operations. The insert carries the KC5025 manufacturer grade and fits the Top Notch series tooling system. With a 60-degree included angle and right-hand orientation, it produces standard UN-form external threads on a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The compact insert size 3 geometry measures 0.1949 inches thick with a 0.1480-inch tip-to-top dimension, making it a precise, repeatable choice for CNC and manual lathe threading applications.
This insert is intended for external threading operations on UN-standard thread forms at 24 TPI. It is suited for use in production machining environments including job shops, manufacturing facilities, and maintenance operations where UN-thread profiles are regularly cut. The right-hand configuration matches conventional lathe threading setups. The Top Notch series platform is a common toolholder system in industrial turning departments, and this insert is the appropriate replacement or replenishment unit for that tooling family. Material grades C2 and C6 indicate suitability across a practical range of workpiece materials.
Designed for use with Top Notch series indexable threading toolholders accepting size 3 inserts. Specific toolholder compatibility should be verified against KENNAMETAL Top Notch system documentation before ordering.
Threading inserts are installed and indexed by machinists and tool-room technicians. Always disengage the machine spindle and confirm the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified for the Top Notch toolholder to secure the insert without over-tightening. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper seating and accurate thread form.
