The KENNAMETAL 1799406 is a carbide threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 18 threads per inch (TPI). Part of the Top Notch series, this insert features a TiAlN finish applied via a PVD coating process, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during threading operations. The insert is right-hand, carries manufacturer grade KC5025, and is suited for material grades C2 and C6. With a 60-degree included angle and a corner radius of 0.0071 inches, it is built to produce accurate UN thread profiles on external workpieces. Machinists and toolroom technicians working on CNC lathes and manual turning centers install this insert into compatible Top Notch toolholders.
This insert is intended for external threading applications on UN-standard thread forms at 18 TPI. It is appropriate for production and job-shop environments where consistent thread geometry and tool life are priorities. The KC5025 grade and TiAlN coating make it suitable for a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials within the C2 and C6 material grade classifications. It fits into the Top Notch insert system, which uses a clamping design common in both manual and CNC turning operations.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders that accept size 3 NTC-style threading inserts. Compatible with external UN thread applications in material grades C2 and C6.
Installation of this threading insert should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Seat the insert fully into the Top Notch toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using the appropriate Torx or hex key. Inspect the insert seating surface for chips or debris before securing. Replace the insert at the first sign of chipping, built-up edge, or thread-form deviation to avoid workpiece damage.
