The KENNAMETAL 1799393 is a Top Notch series carbide threading insert designed for external thread cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to NTC3R14E geometry with a KC5010 grade substrate, this insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN finish that extends tool life in demanding threading applications. It cuts 14 TPI UN-standard threads in a right-hand orientation with a 60-degree included angle. The insert measures 0.1949 inches thick and carries a corner radius of 0.0087 inches, delivering consistent thread form accuracy across production runs. Machinists and toolroom technicians working in general machining and production environments rely on this insert for reliable, repeatable UN thread profiles.
This insert is suited for external threading on materials falling within the C3 and C4 material grade classifications, which typically cover harder cast irons and non-ferrous materials. The Top Notch insert system is a common platform in production turning environments where quick insert indexing and secure seating are priorities. Typical applications include threading on shafts, studs, fasteners, and hydraulic fittings where a 14 TPI UN thread form is specified. The TiAlN PVD coating provides thermal resistance, making this insert a practical choice in dry or minimal-coolant threading passes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement threading insert for KENNAMETAL Top Notch series toolholders accepting NTC size 3 inserts configured for external 14 TPI UN threading applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop and locked-out condition before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Top Notch torque wrench or insert key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert without over-torquing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping mechanism for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Verify thread pitch and hand orientation against the workpiece drawing before initiating a threading pass.
