The KENNAMETAL 1799366 is a carbide threading insert designed for internal thread-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the Top Notch series standard, this insert carries the KC5025 grade designation and features a physical vapor deposition (PVD) TiAlN finish that improves wear resistance and heat dissipation at the cutting edge. The insert is configured for left-hand, internal UN-standard threads at 8 threads per inch (TPI) with a 60-degree included angle. It is sized as an Insert Size 3 and weighs approximately 0.11 pounds. Machinists and CNC operators working on threaded bore applications will find this insert suited to moderate to high cutting demands in steel and cast iron classifications C2 and C6.
This insert is intended for internal threading passes on workpieces requiring UN-standard thread profiles at 8 TPI. The left-hand orientation makes it the correct choice when the tool must traverse in a direction opposite to a standard right-hand insert. Typical installations include production threading on CNC turning centers where Top Notch-compatible toolholders are already in use. The TiAlN coating makes this insert a practical option when cutting ferrous materials or when dry-cutting conditions are preferred to reduce coolant consumption.
Designed for use in Top Notch series toolholders accepting Insert Size 3 threading inserts. Confirm toolholder hand orientation and insert pocket style before installation.
Threading inserts must be installed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's seating and clamping instructions. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid seat damage - do not over-tighten by hand. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert.
