The KENNAMETAL 1796544 is a carbide threading insert designed for precision thread-cutting operations on both internal and external Stub Acme thread forms. Manufactured to the NAS insert style and finished with a TiAlN PVD coating, this insert delivers thermal resistance and edge retention in demanding cutting conditions. It runs at 6 TPI with a 29-degree included angle and is ground to a cutting tip width of 0.0654 inches. The Top Notch series designation indicates compatibility with Kennametal Top Notch toolholders. Machining technicians and tool-room operators specify this insert for applications where Stub Acme thread geometry is required at production volumes.
This insert is suited for both internal and external Stub Acme threading on CNC lathes and manual turning centers in production and job-shop environments. It handles material grades C3 and C4, covering a range of medium to hard workpiece materials. The right-hand cutting geometry makes it the standard choice for conventional right-hand thread engagement. Where Stub Acme forms appear in lead screws, jack screws, and power transmission components, this insert is a direct tooling solution for that profile.
Designed for use with Kennametal Top Notch series threading toolholders accepting insert size 3. Suitable for right-hand Stub Acme thread forms on both internal and external applications.
Threading inserts of this type are installed and changed by machinists using appropriate torx or hex keys specified for the toolholder; consult the toolholder documentation for correct clamping torque. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secure before seating or removing the insert. Verify thread pitch and included angle settings against the workpiece drawing before initiating a threading pass. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edges prior to use.
