The KENNAMETAL 1796517 is a carbide threading insert designed for Acme thread forms in both internal and external threading applications. Manufactured to the NA3L5 insert style in the Top Notch series, it carries a TiAlN finish applied via PVD coating process, which improves wear resistance and extends tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The insert is left-hand orientation with a 29-degree included angle and cuts at 5 threads per inch (TPI). At 0.1949 inches thick and with a cutting tip width of 0.0689 inches, this Size 3 insert fits standard Top Notch toolholders. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in metalworking and threading operations where precision Acme thread profiles are required.
This insert is suited for threading Acme thread forms on materials graded C2 and C6, covering a range of general-purpose and cast iron cutting applications. Its left-hand configuration makes it the correct choice for left-hand threaded workpieces in both internal and external thread cutting setups. The TiAlN PVD coating supports use in higher-speed or dry cutting conditions where heat resistance is a priority. Typical use cases include threading on manual lathes and CNC turning centers. The insert is packaged individually with a minimum order quantity of 5 units, making it appropriate for shop stock or scheduled tooling replenishment.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders accepting Size 3 inserts. Compatible with Acme thread standard applications requiring a left-hand, 5 TPI insert with a 29-degree included angle. Material grade ratings C2 and C6 are specified for this insert.
Threading inserts should be installed and replaced by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully and securely in the toolholder pocket before resuming cutting operations. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edge prior to use.
