The KENNAMETAL 1796508 is a carbide threading insert in the Top Notch series, designed for cutting Acme threads at 8 TPI with a 29-degree included angle. It carries a TiAlN finish applied via PVD coating, which increases surface hardness and heat resistance during threading operations. This is a left-hand insert sized for both internal and external thread applications. With a tip-to-top height of 0.1492 inches, a corner radius of 0.0410 inches, and a cutting tip width of 0.0409 inches, the geometry is optimized for consistent thread form on Acme profiles. Machinists and toolroom operators working on CNC lathes or manual turning centers will find this insert suited for precision threading work in C2 and C6 material grades.
This insert is intended for use in Acme thread applications, both internal and external, where a left-hand thread orientation is required. The Top Notch series is a common platform in production and job-shop turning environments. It is appropriate for threading ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces within the C2 and C6 material grade classifications. Typical install scenarios include threading lead screws, power screws, and similar Acme-profile components on lathes equipped with Top Notch-compatible toolholders. Insert size is 3, fitting the corresponding Top Notch holder pocket size.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders accepting size 3 inserts. Compatible with applications requiring left-hand Acme thread form at 8 TPI on both internal and external features. Suitable for material grades C2 and C6 as specified by the manufacturer.
This insert is installed and replaced by a machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing any insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench or insert screw driver specified for the Top Notch holder to secure the insert without over-tightening. Confirm thread hand orientation and holder compatibility before initiating a threading pass.
