The KENNAMETAL 1796331 is a carbide threading insert designed for external thread cutting operations. Carrying the NJF3008R20 style designation and manufactured to the KC5010 grade, this insert features a TiAlN finish applied via a PVD coating process for improved wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. It is configured for right-hand, external threading at 20 TPI with a 60-degree included angle, meeting UNJ thread standards. At 0.1949 inches thick and weighing under 0.1 pounds, it fits standard Top Notch series toolholders. Machinists and CNC lathe operators in aerospace, defense, and precision manufacturing will find this insert suited to demanding thread-form applications.
This insert is intended for external threading on lathes and turning centers where UNJ thread forms are required. The UNJ standard is commonly specified in aerospace fastener applications, making this insert appropriate for shops producing or servicing aerospace-grade components. The NJF insert style and 3008 insert size are compatible with Top Notch series tooling systems. Right-hand cutting orientation and a 0.0078-inch corner radius support clean thread profiles at 20 TPI on a range of workpiece materials suited to C3 and C4 material grades.
Designed for use with Top Notch series indexable threading toolholders accepting the NJF insert style in 3008 insert size. Suitable for external UNJ thread forms at 20 TPI on turning centers and CNC lathes.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and in a safe, locked-out state before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified for Top Notch series toolholders to seat the insert correctly. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or damage before installing a new insert. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer recommended cutting parameters for this insert style and grade.
