The KENNAMETAL 1796138 is a carbide threading insert in the Top Notch series, designed for both internal and external thread cutting operations. Finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating and offered in manufacturer grade KC5010, this insert handles partial profile 60-degree thread forms across a wide pitch range. It covers external pitches from 0.60 to 1.75 mm (14 to 44 TPI) and internal pitches from 1.00 to 2.00 mm (12 to 24 TPI). The NTF2R style features a right-hand cut orientation and a corner radius of 0.08 mm (0.0031 inches). Machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert on compatible Top Notch toolholders for precision threading on lathes and turning centers.
This insert is suited for threading applications on both internal bores and external diameters where a partial profile 60-degree thread form is required. It fits production and job-shop turning environments handling a broad range of thread pitches in a single insert style. The KC5010 grade with TiAlN coating is appropriate for ferrous and hard materials at moderate to elevated cutting speeds. Material grades C3 and C4 apply. The insert size is 2, fitting the corresponding Top Notch series toolholders designed for that insert size.

Threading inserts of this type are installed and indexed by trained machinists following machine tool manufacturer and insert supplier guidelines. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench or clamping screw tool specified for the Top Notch holder to avoid over-tightening the clamping screw. Inspect the insert seat and clamping components for chips or wear before each insert change to maintain thread accuracy.
