The KENNAMETAL 1796119 is a carbide threading insert in the Top Notch series, designed for both internal and external thread-turning applications on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. The insert carries the KC5010 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN finish, offering wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. It cuts a partial profile 60-degree thread form and covers an external pitch range of 1.25 to 6.25 mm (4 to 20 TPI) and an internal pitch range of 2.00 to 6.25 mm (4 to 12 TPI). The NT insert style mounts right-hand and is indexed in a standard Top Notch toolholder. The K chipbreaker geometry supports controlled chip flow during threading passes.
This insert is suited for production threading operations in job shops, contract machining, and maintenance repair environments. It handles both external thread profiles on shafts and studs and internal threads in bored features. The partial profile 60-degree geometry covers Unified National, metric, and other 60-degree thread standards without requiring a profile change for each pitch within the covered range. Machinists running moderate to high threading speeds on steel, stainless, or cast iron workpieces will find the TiAlN coating appropriate for dry or light-lubrication cutting conditions.
Designed for use with Top Notch series NT-style toolholders accepting insert size 4. Compatible with right-hand external and internal threading applications requiring a partial profile 60-degree insert within the stated pitch ranges. Material grades C3 and C4 indicate suitability for cast iron and general-purpose steel turning applications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert fully in the Top Notch pocket and torque the clamp screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications before resuming cuts. Inspect the insert seating and clamp condition each time the insert is indexed to a fresh edge.
