The KENNAMETAL 1796113 is a carbide threading insert designed for precision thread-cutting operations in both internal and external applications. Manufactured in the NTP4L style with a KC5025 grade substrate, it features a PVD-applied TiAlN finish that improves wear resistance and thermal stability during cutting. The insert produces partial profile 60-degree threads and is engineered for use on CNC lathes and manual threading setups. At 0.2551 inches thick with a corner radius of 0.0065 inches, this left-hand insert maintains tight dimensional tolerances critical to producing accurate thread forms. Machinists and toolroom professionals working in production or job-shop environments are the primary installers.
This insert covers an external pitch range of 1.25 to 6.25 mm (4 to 20 TPI) and an internal pitch range of 2.00 to 6.25 mm (4 to 12 TPI), making it suitable for a wide range of threading jobs across both inch and metric thread families. It is part of the Kennametal Top Notch series, which uses a positive-lock insert seating system commonly found on Top Notch-compatible toolholders. Typical applications include threading steel, stainless, and similar materials where a C2/C6 material grade rating applies. Left-hand orientation suits threading toward the chuck on conventional setups or specific workholding configurations.
Designed for use with Top Notch series-compatible threading toolholders that accept NTP4 size inserts. Confirm toolholder insert size and hand designation before installation.
Threading inserts are installed and replaced by machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with CNC lathe or manual lathe threading operations. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamp-screw driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert to the correct seating torque. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
