The KENNAMETAL 1796103 is a carbide threading insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision thread-cutting operations on both internal and external workpieces. It features a TiAlN finish applied via PVD coating process and carries a KC5010 manufacturer grade with C3 and C4 material grades. The insert is left-hand orientation and conforms to a partial profile 60-degree thread standard. It covers an external pitch range of 0.70 to 3.00 mm (8 to 36 TPI) and an internal pitch range of 1.25 to 3.50 mm (7 to 20 TPI). Machinists and tooling specialists use this insert for high-performance threading on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is suited for threading applications in production machining environments where consistent thread form and tool life are required. The partial profile 60-degree geometry accommodates a broad range of thread pitches without requiring a dedicated insert for each pitch. It is appropriate for use on both internal and external threading passes in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The Top Notch series platform is a widely used modular threading system that accepts this insert size for quick indexing and repeatable positioning.
Designed for use in Top Notch series threading toolholders that accept NTP2L insert size 2 geometry. Consult the toolholder documentation to confirm correct insert style and hand orientation before installation.
Threading inserts of this type are installed and indexed by qualified machinists familiar with Top Notch series toolholders. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or indexing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert. Inspect the insert seat and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper positioning and thread accuracy.
