The KENNAMETAL 1790172 is a carbide cutoff insert designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the KC5025 manufacturer grade with a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, giving it strong wear resistance and thermal stability in interrupted and continuous cuts. The cutting width measures 2.20 mm (0.0866 inches) and the cutting height is 4.76 mm (0.1874 inches). A 6-degree right-hand lead angle and a 2-degree relief angle direct cutting forces efficiently and support chip evacuation. The CF chipbreaker geometry promotes tight chip control in medium to finishing-range applications. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in A2-series cutoff toolholders.
This insert is suited for cutoff and grooving work on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials in production turning environments. The A2 series designation matches a specific class of clamp-style cutoff toolholders. The KC5025 grade with PVD TiAlN coating is commonly applied to steel and stainless steel turning at moderate to high cutting speeds. The CF chipbreaker targets finishing and semi-finishing depths of cut where controlled chip formation reduces part surface damage and toolholder stress. It is sold individually but subject to a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces.
Designed for use in A2-series clamp-style cutoff and grooving toolholders with an insert seat size of 2, as specified by the A2022R06CF02 insert style designation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing any insert. Use the correct clamp torque driver recommended by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten or substitute hardware. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure full, even contact and prevent premature edge failure.
