The KENNAMETAL 1785747 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. Carrying the ANSI designation VNGP3305 and ISO code VNGP160402, this insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake angle of 10 degrees. The TiB2 (titanium diboride) PVD coating delivers high wear resistance suited to non-ferrous and aluminum machining. The inscribed circle measures 0.375 inches, insert length is 16.61 mm (approximately 0.654 inches), and the corner radius is 0.0079 inches (1/128 inch). Cutting edges are honed for consistent chip control across medium machining operations.
This insert is engineered for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring of non-ferrous metals, including aluminum and other N-group workpiece materials. The KENLOC series design supports secure clamping via clamp and pin holding methods. The negative side clearance (N clearance code, G tolerance code) makes it well suited for rigid tooling setups where surface finish and dimensional accuracy on non-ferrous components are priorities. Four cutting edges per insert maximize utilization before replacement. Material grades C3 and C4 indicate suitability for light to moderate finishing and semi-finishing passes on aluminum and non-ferrous alloys.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting VNGP3305 (ANSI) or VNGP160402 (ISO) inserts with clamp and pin retention. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping style before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware when seating the insert; do not overtighten the clamp screw by feel alone. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
